Flatirons Habitat for Humanity is encouraging faith communities to establish Habitat Ministry Teams. Some churches have already found such a group very useful. Though each faith community will consider this action in a different way, we hope the following information will be helpful.
A Habitat Ministry Team:
- is a group of people who will advocate and organize in their faith community for Flatirons Habitat
- may choose to meet regularly (monthly, quarterly, etc.) or on an as-needed basis (in response to Habitat information that has come to the congregation).
- are invited to have one of their members join the affiliate’s Faith Connections Committee, a group that helps to organize and support the affiliate’s partnerships with congregations in the community.
- supports Flatirons Habitat by:
- assisting or representing the pastor with his or her Habitat involvement,
- keeping Flatirons Habitat’s mission and need for support in the forefront of their congregation’s Outreach/Missions committee to ensure ongoing financial support,
- recruiting individuals to participate in Habitat activities, and
- developing a plan to grow their congregation’s involvement with Habitat over time.
Flatirons Habitat will support Habitat Ministry Teams by:
- providing informational literature, educational, devotional and promotional materials;
- Working with the congregation’s Ministry Team to help garner support and educate the congregation on the issues of homelessness, poverty housing and the need for affordable housing in our community.
- Provide speakers as requested.
