A hearty welcome Jonah Kinchy, our new construction site superintendent
Jonah Kinchy is new to Flatirons Habitat for Humanity, but he’s not new to Habitat. It’s been more than a decade since he served two years as an AmeriCorps at Twin Cities Habitat, but that time as a construction assistant laid the groundwork for the career path that led him to us.
Jonah, who started last month as our site superintendent, was a political science and music major at Bard College at Simon’s Rock in Great Barrington, Massachusetts. After college he became an AmeriCorps member, an incredible experience that “set me on a course toward affordable housing and career,” he said.
After his two-year term with the Twin Cities affiliate, he moved to Boulder and began working for Long’s Peak Energy Conservation. LPEC provides cost-effective, energy-efficient improvements and upgrades for eligible homes in Boulder, Larimer, Broomfield and Gilpin counties.
There, he stayed his course, working as an energy auditor working to help low-income families make energy conservation upgrades to their homes. After the devastating floods of 2013, Jonah donned the hat of project manager for three years and helped 50 Boulder County families recover from the flood.
Along the way, the importance of housing kept resonating.
“I learned how critical it is to have stable, affordable housing,” he said.
Which makes Flatirons Habitat a perfect fit, as well as his serving as vice president of the board of directors for Thistle, a Boulder nonprofit dedicated to planning, development and management of affordable housing. Jonah grew up in eastern Pennsylvania, but he is now a Boulderite at heart. He and his wife live in Boulder, where he enjoys “rock climbing, backpacking, playing a little music and hanging out in the city.”
He is Habitat for Humanity at heart, too, and said he loves his new opportunity that allows him to work with volunteers, “build houses, see houses get built and work directly with affected families.”
And we look forward to having him do all that, too. Welcome Jonah, we’re thrilled to have you the team.
